2021-04-17, Church Bay, Skerries

Return to Wales at last for a proper paddle in the briny

Map with GPS track (click on icons): Open Maps   Bing (OS)

There were four of us from Euxton Canoe club. (for the best view of the Skerries select the aerial view on the map via the layer icon in the top right hand corner)

Sunny and calm, just right for a trip to the Skerries - a special place. It was an 8 metre tide at Liverpool with plenty of time in hand but one cannot be complacent on this trip as there is a strong tidal flow around the top of Anglesey

We left Church Bay heading west and the GPS track shows us picking up the flooding tide that sweeps past the Skerries. Notice the kink in the track where we stopped briefly and the tidal flow revealed its north easterly direction

As the flow hits the SW end there is some turbulent water to get through and then we were into the lagoon

We decided to continue on to the beach for lunch

Carmel Head in the distance

After lunch a walk to the lighthouse

Other kayakers were also taking advantage of the conditions

As the tide was about to turn we left and headed towards Carmel Head

On the way there were some Puffins (just in front and beyond Karl)

And a porpoise surfaced a few times but too quick to get a photo
