Back on the water at last ! First outing in the new kayak - a Tiderace Pace Action. Getting to know the kayak I wanted an easy trip paddling solo, so I launched at Moelfre and headed north west up the coast.

The conditions were ideal, the northerly wind was abating and there was some swell left over from the previous days stronger winds. It was neap tides and low tide was around 15:00. I'd taken three paddles (Wing, Euro and Greenland) and started off with the Greenland; I'd been reading up on GPs and wanted to revisit it.

Heading between the island of Ynys Moelfre and the mainland there was some wind over tide causing some lumpy seas for a stretch which soon settled down as Lligwy beach came into view. I did a few surfing runs before leaving.

There were some spectacular cirrus clouds

The plan was to stop for lunch at Porthygwichiaid but the ebbing tide was revealing a lot of boulders so I headed further up the coast through some long period swell to the tiny beach at Porth y Corwgl which offered a much better landing.

I switched paddles and set off for Ynys Dulas

At the northern end there only a few seals

The main seal colony was just around the southern end of the island

Heading back on a beeline for Ynys Moelfre, I was enjoying the Euro paddle. I'll do a separate write up on my thoughts about the different paddles.

Back at Moelfre the Ice Cream shop was doing a roaring trade. People were enjoying the afternoon sunshine, the great views over Snowdonia and the Great Orme in the distance.
