Back to the Heart of the Lakes for the first time since the knee operation last November. Nice ‘n easy does it but there’s always a few challenges. The route involves the classic areas of Loughrigg, Iron Keld, High Tilberthwaite and the Langdale valleys. Starting from Skelwith Bridge with a steep tarmac climb then an easy loop around Loughrigg, past the Tarn and along the shorelines of Grasmere and Rydal. Climbing up the south side of Loughrigg for some great views then back to Skelwith Bridge to complete the first loop.

Then riding south to Knipe Fold to join the permitted byway up to Iron Keld and down to Hodge Close and the slate quarries. Nice to hear the sound of the slates in 'Piano Alley'. Reaching High Tilberthwaite the track then goes north to Little Langdale. The flowing descent into the valley is a delight even though there were many hikers on the trail. A few minor roads lead up to the start of the rocky descent into Elterwater. This is where I met the Kankku convoy coming up the track. Unfortunately the GoPro battery was low and I lost footage on the downhill section. The last track down to Skelwith Bridge is easy but is very popular with walkers. The viewpoint by Elterwater looking back to the Langdale Pikes never disappoints. Pictures taken from the video. Missed the cafe :-(
