2023-08-30, Silverdale, Arnside

Exploring the area around Silverdale and Arnside in the southern part of the Lake District. Mainly undulating minor roads with a few interesting bridleways. Starting from the village of Warton then a rude awakening with the steep climb on the bridleway over Warton crag which quickly turned into a most delightful track. Then onto minor roads and a deviation to Jenny Brown's point to admire the views over Morecambe bay. Delightful countryside riddled with footpaths and small areas of National Trust. Reaching the pretty village of Silverdale and noticing quite a few cyclists on some of the national cycle routes in the area. Just out of Silverdale the road dips and there's an accessible beach which would make a superb break but one has to be cautious not to wander on to the sands of Morecambe bay. Soon there's another bridleway which goes around Arnside Knott leading into a minor road and Arnside itself. Minor roads again then until a deviation to explore an easy but most enjoyable permitted byway. Passing Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve which looks well worth exploring on foot. Then to the outskirts of Silverdale before looping around to the small Yealand villages which offer a great view over to Ingleborough in Yorkshire. A pleasant long descent then back to Warton.
