2021-06-27, MTB, High Newton, Cartmel

A ride of two parts, High Newton to Cartmel return and a loop from Cartmel. The first part had its moments with plenty of variety. The second was delightful with limestone pavement and amazing views. Forgotten bridleways and lush countryside in southern lakeland.

A day at the Cartmel races, well there's a story: our bridleway ran through the actual racecourse but I'd forgotten this, and the fact that it was race day as we merrily cycled past the car queue and ticket checking. A security guard was shouting but we didn't realise it was for us until he sprinted and caught us up. He did his fruit ! So after a short diversion we were into Cartmel for a lunch stop. We decided that we couldn't stretch to L'Enclume or the Rogan cafe, settling for a bench outside a tea room :-)

The views from the top of Hampsfell were amazing

Forgotten bridleways were the theme of the day and this one near the end was almost impenetrable.

Another superb ride in southern lakeland.
