The northern section of the loop included a wide variety of trails from steep rocky climbs to smooth grassy descents and some interlinking roads.

The route towards Hebden Bridge was classic Pennine Bridleway

The trail follows the hill beneath the Stoodley Pike monument

Pennine Way and Pennine Bridleway cross

The climb out of Hebden Bridge was steep and quite long and as we wanted to conserve energy and battery we did some 'walk assist'

Over the moors to a lunch break at Gorple Lower reservoir

Crossing over Widdop reservoir

A considerable climb up onto Black Moor

An exposed and remote area, there was a strong wind and this is somewhere to be avoided in bad weather

After Hurstwood reservoir we had to carry the bikes through the stream as the route was blocked due to bridge repairs

Then there was a section through the stream with a surprise rock or two in the middle - whoops !

The landscape is bizarre with acres of mounds

The explanation

Heading towards the Long Causeway

And finally some more trails down towards Todmorden

With 5 minutes to go I was following Frank and noticed his back wheel seemed to be wobbling...
