On the second ride I took the same bike out combining two local GPS routes.

The sign says something like 'except for authorized users'. I'd just come up a steep rough dried up riverbed through the dense woodland that looked unused. Not somewhere to break down (no mobile reception) or meet a wild boar.

Now out in the open there were great views, that's Monte Amiata in the background at 1732 metres; its an extinct volcano but thermal waters percolate underground throughout the area.

The trail went along a ridge then down into the woods again. Without the GPS one would easily be lost.

Much of the trail was stony track but pretty nevertheless.

Sometimes one would find oneself in the midst of an olive grove.

Often one would question if this really was the route.

There was some pleasant singletrack.
